Sau e Siva Presents Lalelei: Siva Tau
Lalelei means beautiful in Samoan and is the title of the acclaimed show by Sau e Siva telling the story of the turtle and the shark, a Samoan legend from the village of Vaitogi in Tutuila, Samoa.
This show exploded on the stage and had an extended season at the Mangere Arts Centre, Ngā Tohu o Uenuku, bringing together 40 performers from a variety of backgrounds and was choreographed by the talented Sau e Siva Creatives: Leki Bourke, Italia Hunt, Epine Savea, Jill Karapani and Idalene Ati with Creative Director Troy Tu'ua.
In this scene the warrior Chief malietoa Faiga enters and leads his warriors in a Siva tau. In true warfare of old, Samoans did not perform a Siva tau. Warfare was to be avoided through strong mechanisms of diplomacy. Only strategic and needed raids or battles were conducted, sometimes with single warriors representing a clan. In saying that, the Siva Tau is now a popular inclusion within shows. Enjoy more of 'Sau e Siva presents Lalelei' show videos in the links below:
