Iconic Samoan Resort 'Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa' is helping travellers secure their future ‘Sowful Journey’ while helping local families in need
One of Samoa’s longest-serving resorts, Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa, has partnered with widely-successful grassroots NGO, 'Poutasi Development Trust', to drive Sowful Journeys – a COVID-19 recovery effort with the dual purpose of providing immediate assistance to Samoan families and communities in need, and safeguarding travellers’ dreams of visiting the island destination in the future.
Sowful Journeys seeks to alleviate the extreme financial hardship and consequential societal impacts, including increased malnutrition, rising non-communicable diseases and inadequate opportunities for better livelihoods, that COVID-19 has wrought on the South Pacific nation.
The campaign seeks to change this trajectory by calling on people around the world to visit Sowful Journeys’ crowd-funding site and make a pledge toward essential COVID recovery programs, in return for resort credits and bonuses for future holidays, as well as the heart-warming knowledge that their contribution will directly empower Samoan families.
Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa Marketing & Business Development Manager, Nelson Annandale said: “Our mission is to nurture travellers’ commitments to a vacation today into a grassroots project supporting COVID struck families in Samoa tomorrow.”
“The hope of the Sowful team is to not only build a viable means of continuing these efforts free of donations long into the future, but also to encourage new and similar ways of working together across Samoa and other smaller island territories for good,” he explained.
The Sowful Journeys movement is an impact model that stands to support a country whose service sector accounts for more than half of the GDP. Initially launched in October 2020, the campaign is now in its second phase of fundraising, with four main pillars centred around feeding families, raising villages, rejuvenating ecologies and a virtual tip jar.
Beneficiaries of this phase include the Sinalei family – a community of 100 smiling faces that make up a fraction of the rapidly growing unemployed sector in Samoa – who will be involved in a worker displacement program that will provide paid employment for each individual and their family for three months.
Powered by Samoa Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, this group will be employed to cultivate and harvest their own cocoa and coconut farms for their future benefit.
“Plan your holiday with Sowful Journeys today and keep light in the hearts of the many beneficiaries that will experience the support of our post-COVID support programs tomorrow,” Nelson said.
