NZ Plus Size Calendar 2017
Whats big, brown and beautiful? A new calendar launched by plus sized model Regina Borrel which celebrates 'real sizes' and the natural beauty of women with different body shapes.
"I wanted to show the confidence and beauty of bigger women who are often invisible in media imagery. I also did it for my daughter to show her that you don't have to be defined by certain standards of what is ugly and what is beautiful - I wanted to show her that her mum is beautiful and confident as she is"
The models in the calendar are all un-photoshopped in an effort to further portray the realism of the female shape and form. Photographed against the rugged rawness of Piha, the 12 women show that the larger figure can also look good in sexy lingerie and swimsuits, contrary to the idea that this type of underwear is marketed to the small sizes only.
The calendar aims to put a positive spin on body image with its focus on natural untouched beauty in the face of the fashion and beauty industry standards that pushed images of bodies that are unattainable for many Pacific women.
Regina says that the photos in the calendar were taken to prove that a model doesn't have too be modified, stretched, slimmed and have a beauty defined by size.
All the women in the calendar have no modelling experience but wanted to participate in the wonderfully affirming idea behind the project.
"Big women take heaps of selfies but then when you ask them to be in front of the camera like this they think they aren't worthy, which was another reason it was important to get these images out there"
Model Sarah Kolo says she was 'soooo nervous, but proud to be part of it because it was spreading a good message "As bigger women, we have to stop trying to hide"
The calendar can be ordered online from Regina at contact@nzpsfw.co.nz or go to their website here http://nzpsfw.co.nz/ and scroll down to the calendar to buy online
