15yr old Samoan producer Jarom Su'a featured on Drakes 'Certified Lover Boy' album
Recently Canadian born rapper Drake released his sixth studio album "Certified Lover Boy" and amongst the list of producers on the album, is a young 15 year old Samoan producer - Jarom Su'a.
Jarom produced the track "7am on Bridle Path" which you can listen to via Spotify below. The album has had millions of streams already and on the day it dropped (3rd September in the US) it became Spotify's most-streamed album in a single day.
The track has also gained lots of interest with fans speculating over shots fired in Kanye West's direction, in particular when he raps "Give that address to your driver, make it your destination / Stead of just a post out of desperation" (in reference to the time Kanye posted Drakes address on instagram)
So who is Jarom Su'a?
He is of Samoan/Mexican heritage on his Dads side & Argentine/Italian heritage on his Mums side. He lives in Florida with his family and is currently in the 10th grade (2nd year of high school).
He told Rapzilla.com that he's always loved music but it wasn't until he was 10yrs old listening to a song by Timbaland that he became fascinated with the beat and then looked into who Timbaland was. From there he wanted to make beats and his parents encouraged his passion.
He first started making beats on Garage Band and then later moved on to FI Studio to expand his sound.
His father Justin Su'a is the Head of Mental Performance at Tampa Bay Rays where he helps athletes optimize their thought process and his younger sister Eliana is a young up and coming actor who acted as Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnsons daughter Samantha in his block buster movie "Hobbs & Shaw" (pictured below)
It was actually through Eliana and "Hobbs and Shaw" that he linked with legendary producer Timbaland. Jarom was on the red carpet with his sister when he happened to see Timbaland. He walked over and introduced himself, Timbaland started following him on instagram and from there helped him with opportunities in music.
Jarom signed to Pulse Music Group nearly four months ago and is also part of Timbalands BeatClub which is a team with all the top producers in the world and he's still being mentored by Timbaland himself.
Timbaland gave Jarom a shout out in an IG post where he featured his BeatClub producers who contributed to the album which is where we discovered him as well. Thank you to Waytz2020 for putting us on!
Apart from Drake, the young producer has also produced songs with Big Breeze, Nu Tone, L.de Juan, K.Cartel, Kaydence and Nic D.
His advice for other young people who want to get started in music production -
"If you really want to do music production, just do it! Producing is a marathon, not a sprint and if you truly have a passion for it, any obstacles that you might have will be overpowered by the passion and love of making music! If you want to get better just continue to learn and keep producing!"
