Joe and Agnes Naufahu
When Joe was walking the red carpet at the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 6 in Los Angeles, the 38-year-old decided that there was noone else he'd rather take then his mum, which seems to be a recurring theme:
"This is taking me back to my first year at Varsity at Auckland University; so on Orientation Day, mum came with me. I had to line up and get my books and all that, and mum was like "No Joseph, this is not the line for the paper for the business! Come over here, this one!" And I was standing there like "ahhh... ummm" and my mates were over there saying "Oh Joe came with his mum!"
Nainz, Viiz and the late Selepa Lavea Feterika Tupa'i
Their late mother bounded with the ailment polio since birth, had been responsible for nurturing the boys musical talents from when they were young.
"Our mother used to get us up and stand at the end of her bed and she'd be teaching us songs from the ages of three and four. And we had a family band as well, and we'd go and perform at all of our mums' disabled functions - so they were our first gigs. We'd do everything from hakas to Island dances," says Viiz.
But Nainz remembers it wasn't always a voluntary performance.
"Our parents weren't shy about putting our names up for being the ones to play the organ for the church. I was eight years old when I first played for the church, and you can imagine how nerve racking that is for an eight-year-old kid, sweating, looking at my parents," he laughs.
"We look back at it now and think, 'Oh man, that was our training ground'."
Beatrice and Roini Faumuina
"I grew up in a household of three generations, my late grandmother and my mum and me, where working and studying and developing your skills to the next level was normal.
I saw that all the time. My mother worked fulltime and studied in the evening to advance herself in her career.
My mum's philosophy is that a family who eats together, stays together."

#TBT - Surprising my mom with a new car for Christmas. Couldn't remember what her favorite color was between white or red, so I went with white.
“A few weeks later she was curious as to why I chose white and not her favorite color, red? I told her I couldn't remember her favorite color so I went with white, but I would return the car and get her a new red one?! She looked at me like I had three heads and said ‘Are you crazy? Nooooo way, I love my white car! I'm so grateful. I was just curious.’ I even contemplated secretly taking her car from her garage and having it replaced with a new red one, but thought I better not and just leave well enough alone.
“Then as fate would have it, she was hit head on by a drunk driver - she survived. Her white car was completely totaled and she wound up getting a replacement car of the color she always wanted... Red.
“Funny (and gratefully) how things work out the way they're meant to. And still to this day she says that white car saved my life.”
