From Security Guard to Rising Music Star: Rom3 Music
From Security Guard, to a featuring artist. ROM3 has come a long way in his unlikely journey into the music industry.
Originally from Long Beach, CA, and raised in Lakewood, WA, ROM3 considers Washington his home. Little did he know that his life would take a dramatic turn when he started working as a security guard, eventually leading him to collaborate with none other than NBA Youngboy.
Rome's initial foray into the world of music wasn't intentional. One day, in a lighthearted moment, he jokingly offered to be the American rapper, NBA Youngboy's singer.
“When I first started working for him, I asked him if he needed a singer but I was just saying it as a joke because I had that thought in me that I’m just his security“
Never imagining that this jest would set off a chain of events that would change his life forever. Despite being surrounded by co-workers who hesitated to visit the artist's studio, ROM3 took the initiative to explore NBA Youngboy's creative space and, in doing so, discovered a new passion.
His journey took an unexpected turn when he got fired from the security company in late October. Tragically, a few days later, ROM3 faced another devastating blow as he lost his beloved wife to cancer.
Grieving and in the midst of personal turmoil, ROM3 found solace and inspiration in his wife's words, pushing him to pursue his musical aspirations.
“I never wanted to release it after tragedy struck but my wife has been pushing me to do it”
ROM3 recalls the night he was vibing to NBA Youngboy’s music when he was called into the studio
“I was doing my walk though around his yard, he called me to come inside. Then he goes “I remember you telling me you sing and I heard a little through my cameras. You got any music?”
ROM3 fondly remembers NBA Youngboy listening to one of his samples, the American rapper even praising Rome at one point
“You got a voice Rome, not many people got a sound like you”. To which ROM3 humbly replied “Trust me there’s a lot of polys that are 10x better than me, I just sing”
Despite the pain and loss of his late wife, ROM3 channeled his emotions into his art, ultimately deciding to release a single. "Down 4 You," a song that emerged from a spontaneous collaboration with NBA Youngboy, became a testament to Rome's resilience and determination. The track, recorded in less than 30 minutes, showcased not only Rome's raw talent but also the genuine connection between the two artists.
What sets ROM3 apart is not just his vocal prowess but also his authenticity. He openly admits that he was always interested in music but never envisioned himself recording and pursuing a career in the industry. It was the untimely loss of his wife that propelled him to honor her wishes and dive headfirst into the world of music, transforming tragedy into a source of motivation.
