SUPER SOUL REVUE
The Hipstamatix, Estere, Tyra and the Tornadoes and the Pacific Queen of Soul herself - Aaradhna - got up with the get down last night for a night of Soul music in NZs first 'Super Soul Revue'
Aaradhna both headlined and curated the night which featured the superstar local line-up of talented soul artists at Aucklands 'Powerstation'
Highlights of the night below ...
THE HIPSTAMATIX
More than a Soul covers band, The Hipstamatix sound and style is based on 60's and 70's Motown acts such as Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross and turn iconic songs like TLC's "Waterfalls" and Beyonce's "Naughty Girl" into soulful, funk anthems. The 10 piece band are about to release originals of their own and will be touring this summer.
ESTERE
A one of a kind performer, Estere held the crowds attention throughout her set with an incredible voice and obvious talent as a one man band! She's opened for international artists such as Erykah Badu, Aloe Blacc & Morcheeba and is back from a tour in Africa, the UK and France.
TYRA HAMMOND & THE TORNADOES
Last night the crowd were treated to a rare live performance of Tyra Hammond and The Tornadoes and before Tyra performed their single "You got me thinkin" she told the crowd there is only one 7" release that exists of them and joked that if anyone had it they should hold on to the classic cut. The Tornadoes live show consists of original Afro-beat inspired funk and the band's own arrangements of classic b-boy funk and breaks music.
AARADHNA
And lastly the Pacific Queen of Soul herself who opened with 'Good Man', had the crowd singing along to her earlier classics like 'Stonger' and 'Down Time' , held them captive as she belted out ballads like 'I'm not the Same' and then went into her new tracks from 'Welcome to the Jungle'. After ending with her no.1 single "Brown Girl" she didn't leave the crowd hanging when they yelled for more and came out to end with her hit single 'Wake Up' from her album 'Treble & Reberb'
