Inky Pinky Ponky Film - Get to know JP Foliaki
John-Paul Foliaki (JP) plays the male lead Mose in the upcoming CoconetTV original 'Inky Pinky Ponky' film.
JP is a proud NZ born Tongan from South Auckland. He is an Artist in every sense of the word - he loves all things creative but music and acting have been keeping him busy as of late. He's been fortunate enough to be a lead in the smash hit Tongan feature film, 'Red, White and Brass' and has got a few more projects in the works, so keep an eye out for that. He's living out his dream and hopefully inspires others to do the same.
We caught up with JP ahead of the upcoming release of 'Inky Pinky Ponky' here on the CoconetTV.
My name is John-Paul Foliaki (JP) and I am a proud NZ born Tongan from South Auckland. I am an Artist so I love all things creative but music and acting has been keeping me busy as of late. I've been fortunate enough to be a lead in our very own Tongan feature film, Red, White and Brass and have a few more projects in the works so keep an eye for that. I want to take whatever gifts God has blessed me with as far as possible and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
What inspired you to get into acting?
Acting wasn't necessarily something I thought I'd be able to pursue so I've jumped in quite late but I'm here nevertheless. What inspires me the most is being able to express myself and tell a story. Especially Tongan / Pasifika stories. Whether it's my own story or another Artists, I'm down for a challenge and that's what acting has been for me. Love it.
Can you describe your character Mose?
Ahhh toxic, immature and too cool lol but also misunderstood, caring and brave.

What do you love about the character you play?
That he eventually grows to learn not to give a shi* about what others think about him
Who are your biggest creative inspirations and why?
My friends and family. We help eachother out a lot so they stay inspiring me the most. Experts in turning a dream into a reality tbh and despite the many challenges, they get it done and know how to have a kata along the way.

What was one of your highlights working on Inky Pinky Ponky?
Besides the bomb cast and crew it was having the opportunity to challenge myself and step into a role that has the potential to spark important conversations in our communities.
What do you hope people will take away from Inky Pinky Ponky after watching?
That if 'ofa is one of our core values then that's what we should lead with. And to remember how powerful your words and actions can be. They often give people the permission to follow suit.
