New Chief Executive Officer for the Centre for Pacific Languages (CPL)
A Pacific language champion has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer for the Centre for Pacific Languages (CPL).
Board Chair and Trustee for the Centre for Pacific Languages Sina M Wendt, ONZM announced recently the appointment of Fesaitu Solomone to the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Since Sina joined CPL as Chair in July, the Board had been sharply focussed on finding a strategic and visionary leader; a dedicated and passionate Pacific language and cultural knowledge holder - to lead the Centre for Pacific Languages. With the expert assistance of ATCL Search, the Board through its HR subcommittee was able to work through a robust recruitment process, with the preferred candidate fronting the full Board in October 2023.
Upon expressing her congratulations to Fesaitu, Sina described her as having the heart and passion of a servant leader, bringing extensive management experience and strategic leadership from over 20 years in corporate, commercial companies as well as Pacific and non-profit organisations.
"As a fluent speaker of Faeag Rotuam, she is a passionate advocate and a champion for Rotuman language and culture in Aotearoa and globally. Furthermore, as an educator and translator for Pacific Languages, Fesaitu fully understands the fundamental need for ongoing revitalisation, retention, sustainability of Pacific languages and culture.
She firmly believes that this anchors our identity as Pacific peoples here in Aotearoa and is a cornerstone of our mental health and well-being." Ms Wendt said.
We look forward to her leadership with The Centre for Pacific Languages.
Maliu mai, tatou folau fa’atasi. (Welcome, we will voyage together)
