MY WORLD - FIJIANA 7s
Welcome to the very special and high-performance world of Fijiana!
We spend time in Suva with the Womens 7s Rugby team for Fiji. Captain of the team Rusila Nagasau speaks to us about the sport her and her team loves and the experience being in the Fijiana.
The Fijiana 7s created history after winning their first ever Olympics medal beating Great Britain 21-12 to win the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It all began when the Marist Rugby 7’s Tournament amended their competition format in 1989 where they included a women’s division to contest the new Tamanivalu Trophy.
Coming along the way, the Marist 7’s tournament became a regular competition for the slowly growing women’s rugby in Fiji. In 1996 Fijiana first came into the limelight of the World 7s stage in an invitational at the Hong Kong 7’s.
Today they are stars in women's rugby and inspire wahine toa around the region who are making great success through the trials of day-to-day island life.
