Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Mālō e lelei! My name is Diamond Langi. I was born in Auckland, New Zealand, my background is Tongan coming from the villages of Vaini, Nukunuku, Fasi, and Fatai. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.
You’re a former beauty pageant queen, stylist, actor, model, and with this release, a recording artist! What has your journey into music been like? Has this always been something you’ve wanted to accomplish?
My journey with performing arts began with music. From a very young age, while living in Salt Lake City, Utah, I sang and wrote music. My father and I often performed together at church, weddings, and various events. I've been fortunate enough to explore different facets of the arts, wearing many hats along the way. Music has always been a part of me, and now it’s time to give it the spotlight, just as I have with other creative endeavors.
Your debut single, ‘Keep You Here,’ is an ode to your father, how important was he in shaping who you are today?
My father was a major inspiration in my life, and I owe my creativity and musical talents to him. The woman I am today is a reflection of both my father and my mother.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to young Tongan or Pasifika girls that aspire to step into the arts space?
Don’t be afraid to let yourself be seen and show the world who you are.
And finally, what’s next for Diamond Langi?
More music, more acting, more writing, and hopefully more projects where I am wearing the hat of costume design / wardrobe, and directing.
