Sīsū E Keke Ofi Pē - The Tonga Sisters ft. Taufa Lātū
In memory of HRH Mele Siu’ilikutapu Kalaniuvalu Fotofili
The Tonga Sisters dedicate their Poly Songbook to the beloved late Princess Mele Siu'ilikutapu and sing a rendition of 'Sīsū E Keke Ofi Pē'.
Written and composed by Tongan Nightingale Tu’imala Kaho, this gospel song is one of her many compositions that have pleasured the island kingdom for over a half-century.
Lyrics and translation by Rob Pomee below -
First verse -
Sīsū e ke ke ofi pē
Si’i folau ni na’a hē
Fa’a Tukia homau va’e
He ngaahi tauhele
Jesus may I be nearer to thee
Please guide us in our journey
In the right direction so that we may not fall into entrapment
Second verse -
Lingi mai ho’o vai mo’ui
Ke mau ‘utu mo inu ai
Ma’a ai homau lotokovi
‘Eiki ‘oua ‘e momoi
Let the waters of life flow down
So that we can refill and drink from
To cleanse out our jealousy
Lord please
Tau/Chorus
‘Eiki ‘afio mai
Ki he’emau tangi
Tuku mai Ho tapuaki
Ka mau mo’ui ai
Lord we are reaching out and crying for your blessings to be up on us, place your blessings on us so that we can live.
